OGBO I. OSSAI is a Senior Attorney in the firm's Houston office, where he focuses on U.S. trade law and regulatory compliance as it relates to import and export requirements.

Mr. Ossai:

  • Assists clients in complex regulatory trade compliance requirements
  • Researches and prepares binding-ruling requests
  • Participates in on-site client audits and import compliance reviews
  • Researches and prepares opinion letters on dutiability of assists and transfer pricing issues.
  • Assists clients in the development and implementation of internal compliance programs addressing export controls, "deemed" exports, economic sanctions, Antiboycott issues, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)

Prior to the international trade law practice, Mr. Ossai was a Principal Contract Specialist with Lyondell Chemical Company where he worked with legal, tax departments, and project teams on the development of contract strategies for multiple capital projects, and toxicology and pipeline contracts. He also issued requests for proposals; reviewed and evaluated bids of potential contractors; and negotiated terms and conditions of engineering, procurement and construction contracts with selected contractors. Mr. Ossai has also negotiated contracts involving technology consulting services.

Mr. Ossai has had additional training in the areas of Contract Claims & Litigation Avoidance. He has participated in various CLE seminars, including Essentials of U.S. Export Control Seminar, Deemed Export and International Technology Transfer Seminar, How to Develop an Export Management and Compliance Program Seminar, the International Project Development Seminar by International Law Section of the State Bar of Texas; and Karrass Negotiations Seminar.
